TUMOUR MARKERS
TUMOUR MARKERS are substances produced in abnormal amounts by certain benign and malignant tumours
Estimation of these substances in the blood is commonly used as an indicator of the presence of certain tumours
Also they are used in
1.To predict the probable response to treatment and in some cases to decide the protocol for treatment
2.To monitor response to treatment
3.To check for recurrence after treatment
Presence of these tumour markers are not diagnostic of the tumour and cannot be used as screening tests
We in Dane have the facility to detect and estimate almost all commonly used tumour markers
We do it on a daily basis and can provide results in 24 hours unlike most of the other laboratories in the town ,who send those samples to distant places
We do all tests ourselves and we are not collection agents,we are responsible for our results
The commonly used markers are
HUMAN CHORIONIC GONADOTROPIN(HCG) in Testicular and ovarian tumours
ALFA FETO PROTEIN. In Hepatocellular(Liver cancer) carcinoma and many other embryonal tumours
CARCINO EMBRYONIC ANTIGEN(CEA) -In cancer of large intestine
CA 19-9(Carbohydrate Antigen 19-9) -Cancer of Pancreas and Bileducts
Prostate Specific Antigen(PSA)-In cancer of the Prostate
CA-125. in Ovarian Cancer
We have the most modern instruments for this like IMMULITE 1000(Siemens),CENTAUR(Siemens) and MiniVidas .
